Handler employed as an actor to earn a living for her family. Handler made the decision to focus on stand-up comedy at the age of 21 following the realization of her storytelling skills. Handler's career started as an actress on a cast of all females for the Oxygen channel's reality television show Girls behaving poorly. The show featured a combination of hidden cameras and practical humor. This reality show was on from 2002 to 2005. The host began to appear on other shows like Weekends at D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler was a part of The Tonight Show for a while as a correspondent. Handler was given her first major break when she hosted her E! Show in 2006. The Chelsea Handler Show. The show ran for a total of two seasons. Handler performed on the Comedy Central's Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour the following season across the United States.
